"What?" Randhir asked, to make sure he heard right.
"I like you," she repeated.
Randhir couldn't stop himself from smiling.
"I like you too," he replied softly.
Of course he did - she was fun to be around, and he genuinely enjoyed her company. Perhaps she thought the same about him.
Sanyukta closed her eyes and rested her head on his chest.
"Don't read my diary," she mumbled.
"Your diary?" Randhir asked, his heart racing.
He remembered how he tried to get his hands on her diary two years ago, but he had failed. Randhir had forgotten about it and eventually stopped caring when he had moved on with his life, but when Kaustuki brought it up again tonight it had sparked up interest within him... and now that Sanyukta was bringing it up again, he was curious to know what exactly was in that diary.
"Yeah," Sanyukta replied, her eyes closing. "It's in my closet. Please don't read it."
"You sound tired," Randhir replied to her softly.
"I am tired," she muttered. "I want to have sex then sleep."
Randhir couldn't help but smile - she was so adorable.
"If you go to sleep now, I promise I won't say no next time," he told her quietly.
"Next time?" she asked with a pout.
"Mhmm," he said softly, and turned her over so that she was lying down on the bed.
Randhir leaned forward and kissed her cheek.
"One kiss?" she asked him cutely. "Then I'll sleep."
He caressed her cheek and allowed his lips to brush over hers lightly. They shared a quick but passionate kiss, and Randhir pulled himself back. He sat up on the bed and buttoned his shirt before stroking her forehead lovingly.
Sanyukta's eyes closed and she fell asleep in no time. Randhir pulled the covers up to her chin and kissed her forehead - she was just like a little kid when she was drunk, and he didn't want to leave her side... but he knew that he didn't want to make the same mistake he made two years ago.
Randhir didn't think he could take on more guilt. He had already suffered from feeling guilty for taking her virginity... and now he didn't want to sleep with her while drunk, that was taking advantage of her on another level.
He went to the kitchen and filled a jug with water before bringing it along with a glass to her room. He placed the jug of water and the glass on her bedside table and stroked her hair gently, admiring the innocent way she slept.
Everything about her was so innocent - including the way she slept. He was mesmerized. He didn't want to leave. He wanted to lie next to her and hold her in his arms, and stroke her hair all night. But he shook himself out of his reverie - he didn't know why he felt this way, but he knew that he needed to get out of here, otherwise the amount of self-control he currently had might disappear.
He kissed her on the cheek softly and then stood up. As he was making his way to the door, his eyes fell on her closet. She said her diary was in there. Randhir glanced at Sanyukta who was fast asleep.
He chewed on his lower lip in deep thought - this wasn't right, but Sanyukta was a mystery. There were so many unanswered questions from two years ago... and even today, he wasn't sure what her real intentions were.
If he read her diary, he may know why she was acting the way she was... he may finally get to know why she spread rumours about herself in college. He might also find out the reason behind her distance.
Her phone conversation from the other day played in his mind. That had been confusing for him - it made it seem like she didn't want him in her life and she wanted to get rid of him, yet today she told him in a drunken state that she wanted to sleep with him, that she liked him.
Randhir started to walk towards the closet, his heart racing, his palms sweating. This wasn't right. He shouldn't invade her privacy like this... but he was starting to lose self-control.
Opening her closet, he looked around until he found it. His eyes landed on the black notebook that looked the same as it had two years ago. Randhir opened the cover, and there it was... Diary was written in her neat handwriting.
Randhir closed the closet and with the diary in his hands, walked out of her room and into his own before locking his door.
Taking a deep breath, he opened the diary, and started to read...
