This was insane. He was insane. He waited in his room, looking into Sanyukta's window, until she entered and he knew she was alone. Then with shaky fingers, he dialed her number.
He watched her face turn into one of surprise when she saw who was calling.
She stared in shock for a few moments, before she answered the call and put the phone to her ear.
"Hello," she said, her voice high-pitched, like she was scared.
"Hi," Randhir replied. "It's me... Randhir."
"I know," she replied, and he saw how she clutched her quilt really tightly through her window.
"I want to see you," Randhir said to her. "Now."
"At this time?" she replied.
"Yeah," he said. "Can you meet me?"
"Where?" she asked, sounding unsure of what to expect.
He gave her the name of a hotel and she nodded.
"I'll come there," she responded. "I'll be there in twenty minutes. Bye."
Randhir watched her hang up the phone and fall backwards on her bed, trying to take deep breaths. His heart ached when he saw tears fall out of her eyes. She had heard his voice after so long.
Then he watched her stare at her wardrobe for a long time and Randhir couldn't help but smile... she wanted to look good for him.
He waited for her to leave... and when he did, he gave it five minutes, before he left, because he didn't want to bump into her on the street. In the meantime, he called the hotel and arranged for a room.
When he left and caught a cab which took him directly to the hotel, she was waiting in the lobby for him.
He picked up the room keys from the reception and walked up to her. She looked stunned to see him, as if everything that was happening was not real... as if it was all her dream.
"Come," he said, and took her hand in his.
She glanced down at their joined hands and looked back up at him, still in a daze. They walked to the elevator and stepped out on their floor, before Randhir opened the door and they both walked in.
As soon as he locked the door, Randhir turned to Sanyukta and engulfed her in a bone crushing hug, something he wanted to do for so long, but he wasn't able to do.
He held her for a few moments, and while he felt her loosen up in his arms, there was something that was missing in their embrace.
