In terms of stats, this was probably one of the most one sided WC finals ever played. How Argentina underperformed to this extent is beyond understanding. They just surrendered in front of the Spanish defensive wall. They seemed to rely heavily on Martínez to keep a clean sheet and take them to a penalty shootout.

I hope Messi announces his retirement from international football soon and doesn't make the same mistake Ronaldo did. As a wise man once said, Leave football before football leaves you.
