Babul Supriyo
Having made a name for himself as a singer, Babul Supriyo is all set to try his hand at something entirely new.

"I'd like to go into acting. Unlike Sonu Niigaam or Kumar Sanu who insisted on doing the lead, I'm just looking at interesting opportunities to prove myself in a new sphere of activity. My advantage is I'm bi-lingual. I can act in both Hindi and Bengali."

Supriyo's screentest

Babul has already sent feelers to directors in Bengal like Satyajit Ray's son Sandeep and Rituparno Ghosh, and to Madhur Bhandarkar in Hindi.

"I've asked Madhur if he has anything for me in Signal. I even asked Ritu-da if he'd like to take my screen test. But he said there's no need. I've lost 20-25 kgs in the past year. I think I'm ready to take to acting."

Recently, one of his tracks in Vikram Bhatt's Ankahee was dubbed with new lyrics, and re-sung by Kunal Ganjawala for the opening titles of the film. Says Supriyo, "I had the best song in Ankahee.

The song has been used in the film. And that's enough for me. I don't want to question why another singer sang the same song. I'm sure the producers had good reason for doing it. I feel as a singer I've reached a kind of plateau. I need to move on."
