I don't know exactly how law proceedings work but I know one thing that a judge in court give punishment according to circumstances under which the crime is done and the intention of the criminal. If anytime in the future Maya become fine and herself surrender to the police then sympathy can be shown. Judges may minimize her punishment, that's what can happen mostly but she can't escape punishment that's for sure.

In this type of situations, it is very difficult to decide what/who is wrong and what/who is right, it depends on our thinking/ understanding of things.

Well most of the times sympathy act as a barrier when it comes to strict punishment

If a person killed someone in self-defense than the rule of strict punishment is withdrawn.

In a country a woman can kill her rapist in self-defense.

Death Penalty is mostly withdrawn from mentally ill patients

Even if Maya is innately insane or acquired those traits after circumstances she faced she is a psychological patient...

Circumstances a person faced determined psychological state of a person...I strongly believe this...Well it also depends on choice...but a few things happen without choice...In Maya's case she chose Arjun in the form of her happiness...as a new beginning but the same person became her obsession due to her vulnerabilities, obsession, innate or acquired psychological traits.

Though psychopaths can make other people suffer badly in my opinion they should be treated or should be kept away from the sources/ circumstances where their traits can get triggered...Positive reinforcement works...They don't respond to punishment as according to research studies prison seems to have no deterrent, punitive or curative effect on psychopaths but they do respond to reward...

Isolating or punishing a patient is not a solution to any problem faced due to them...

In cases like that of Maya punishment doesnt work, that will make her more revengeful only. Because she is a victim everywhere. So if you punish her, she will retaliate. She is searching justice. Either you give her death penalty so that it is the end or if you have to cure her, make her realize what she is doing you have to go to the source of her problem which I believe is in what happened to her on 9th birthday.

She has been put in dark rooms, beaten and all by her father even before that, but something drastic happened on that 9th birthday that changed Maya forever. From that point no body has given her any indication that she should change her ways. She tried a way to get something she wanted on 9th birthday she got it and continue to get things the same way.

You have to deny her victimization. Someone has to do actions that doesnt give Maya to do crime in the name of Arjun. That's her cure and that's her way for punishment also.

People have to differentiate about sympathy and empathy. Sympathy is a barrier for punishment, but empathy helps you to understand that person by putting yourself in their shoes and bring in a lasting solution than a temporary bandage.

I agree with you.

but frankly speaking this is a show not reality so here nothing can be totally logical and totally related to actuality of any term be it some disease, be it nature be it anything because show makers can show anything to run their shows by mixing their thoughts and reality.

In case of Maya whatever is shown according to that she should have killed Sanjh in start as she is the biggest threat to her love/obsession (Arjun) from starting but she did not killed her because cvs do not want this to tun the show, they wanted to show a death so they picked Prem because of not so important role of him.

so no debate from my side.
