Well that key is related to something which Mehek is hiding from Dev...yes it could be related to his mom. But if his mom is alive then obviously she must not be locked up somewhere all alone...there has to be someone who provides her food and all...and also the way Mehek has obtained that key...she did not have an access to that key earlier on.
And that photo-shopped pic of Dev, B*mber and Dev's mom in today's episode...she was unhappy but she was not tied up or something...I think she's rather in a house-arrest kind of situation.
