Why Praneet is referred to as Pandit-ji?

I noticed in yesterday's episode that Praneet is being referred to as Pandit-ji by his friends...

I don't know wether I am right or wrong...

I think by caste he is Brahmin ... He wears janiwar (thread on shoulder)

In the first week , when praneets baggage was missing we could clearly see the thread...

He is a Kashimiri Pandit...

He is a Kashmiri Pandit and he was born in Srinagar.
