It was Praneet who was saying that Gautam is not capable of being a captain. He even said to Puneet that I'll think about making Gautam a captain when you'll come out as only you can handle him. And that also I'll do only because you're asking this otherwise I'm not in favor of making Gautam a captain at all.

So technically maybe Punz was the best captain and not him. His dandhs out of the Gautam City task was hugely rejected by HMs since captains are not allowed to do that. No captain was given such a commanding luxury task before that is why he was prominent this week and even then he managed to come out negative on multiple occasions (like the late night punishments and the Sonali issue)
