Alia's performance in gangubai is a big disappointment

So I finally saw the movie a few weeks ago to see what I was missing since y'all sold me her performance as some breath taking acting and... What a disappointment ! The whole movie is her smirking and laughing to act as badass. It was so annoying to watch. She was also very conscious about her movements they didn't came naturally. It was distracting and all I could see is alia not the character. Not to mention the try hard voice. Actually everything she did was a try hard. Another thing is that she looked like a rich girl who was cosplaying poverty but it worked since gangu is from an educated family.

I will admit that she improved her crying scenes but I was also annoyed at how many scenes she had crying eyes. All she does I the movie is crying eyes, laughing and smirking. Didn't deepika get criticised because of her crying eyes ? So how come alia got away with it ?

I was more able to understand gangubai's feelings because of the narrative than through alia's acting at some moments. How come this mediocre performance is hailed as great acting ? A sanya malhotra, a fatima or a parineeti would have elevated the story and made it justice. What a waste. I can't believe slb went from Rani to this. Good thing that the movie is well written and could overshadow a mediocre performance.

I'm tired of mediocre actors in Bollywood ! We need true talents !

I never saw her movies but it wouldn't be hard to do better than alia. The bar is so low.

bold: I certainly did not...after Kalank another movie where I saw her performance as 'conscious acting'... (it also was a let-down to me)

Kya baat kar rahe ho....She instilled Gangu into herself so much that it spilled over into her next movie Rocky also...Sample this...Watch how in this scene her inner Gangu ubhar ubhar kar baahar aa rahi hai....lol

Another reason to not watch this movie besides the lack of chemistry between the two leads. I can't believe she won an award for this mediocre acting. We deserved to see Ranveer with a better actress.

Parineeti? Saniya Malhotra? I know Alia bhatt has been given things on a platter and sometimes even awards..but there is no way on planet earth those two could have done gangubai..just not possible..AB was fantastic in that movie and out of a lot of awards given to her when she did not really deserve..this definitely was very well deserved. She lived gangubai!

Parineeti was fiery and intimidating in ishaqzaade and Sanya acts very well. Both are better actresses than Alia. There's nothing fantastic about smirking the whole movie to act badass. This is not acting. Again she's very conscious of her movements and expressions. Gangubai was good because of the script not because of alia. All she had to do was not being too bad.

It was above average
