Instead, why can't they just provide student loans/scholarships/aids and also grants to colleges to help the low income groups?

Entrance should be based on merit however.

Reservation never reaches people who truly need them and face caste discrimination. Opposition and ruling party won't touch it

The least they can do is have minimum passing marks and track down fake certificates. Atleast bring some level of lawful fairness to it.

I would ideally want no reservation too but if at all given, should be given only to a very limited no. of people who really need it that too only in UG and not beyond a certain cut-off marks in entrance tests.. But if the same people, even after studying for 4-5 years, score 4 or -40 marks in PG entrance test then that means the reservation given to them in UG was totally wasted. They are undeserving to serve the public and government is basically giving them licence to harm the public (with the kind of knowledge they have).
