Hello everyone.

Soon we are going to see an important part of Jalandhar- Vrinda's story that is Vrinda's end. There are Purana's version for this part. DKDM's version may be same or vary form that but the fact is how she ended her life & events after that can be an important pt of discussion for us.

All discussions abour Vrinda- Vishnu, Jalandhar's reaction on Vrinda, should be posted in this thread only. All the posts, threads opened, writing about this events or analysis about the same will be merged in this thread or closed.

Vrinda was incarnation of devi lakshmi.

Story is:- Devi lakshmi once came to brahmalok to meet saraswati. Their simple talks ended with heated argument that who is great lakshmi or saraswati. Then they both came to vaikunth and made vishnu to judge them. Devi ganga was also present there she supported lakshmi. In anger saraswati gave curse to lakshmi that she wud be born in asurkul and her relation wid vishnu will also vanished as she have to marry a demon. Again, She cursed ganga that she will also have to suffer at earth in form of river. Saraswati also cursed by ganga saraswati will also go down on earth in river form.

After that lakshmi took birth as vrinda as daughter of kaalnemi. Some say she took birth as daughter of kushdhwaj.

Naryan took his anshavtaar in form of demon callled shankhchur as per curse.

After Vrinda died and she became Tulasi Devi, she meditated in a forest on the banks of Yamuna River. Because of her presence, many tulasi plants grew there. Lord Brahma appeared there and blessed Vrinda, saying that this forest would be known as Vrindavana in honour of her and till now, she is the guardian of Vrindavana. Even when Lord Shiva wanted to enter Vrindavana to take part in the Rasa Leela of Lord KRishna, he needed Vrinda's permission. Vrinda smiled and gave him the form of a gopi. Thus he was able to take part in the Raasa Leela. He beacme the second Guardian of Vrindavana (Assistant??) and his temple is still in Vrindavana, where he is worshipped as Gopeshwara Mahadev.

TULSI VIVAH

Tulsi Vivah is the ceremonial marriage of the Tulsi plant (holy basil) to the Hindu god Vishnu or his Avatar Krishna. This ceremony can be performed any time between Prabodhini Ekadashi - the eleventh lunar day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu month Kartik to the full moon of the month (Kartik Poornima) but usually it is performed on the eleventh or the twelfth lunar day. The day varies from region to region. The Tulsi wedding signifies the end of the monsoon and the beginning of the Hindu wedding season.

LEGEND:- Tulsi Vivah is celebrated on Kartik Sud 15. Tulsi is the plant Ocimum Sanctum (a sacred venerated plant) and Vivah means marriage. Literally it is the celebration of Tulsi's marriage. Tulsi in her former birth was Vrinda, the faithful wife of the demon Jalandhar. She was exceptionally beautiful, maintained her dharma and was always the perfect wife to her husband. Jalandhar was so named because of being born in water (jala). He initially ruled over the oceans as he was born from the sweat which Shiva had thrown from his brow into the ocean when he perspired after being insulted by Lord Indra. This caused him to demand the fourteen treasures churned out from the ocean by Indra as part of his heritage. As was Indra's nature he did not oblige. To avenge Indra, Jalandhar worshipped Brahma and underwent extraordinary penance. In delight Brahma granted him the boon that he would remain free from death as long as his wife remained virtuous and chaste.Vrinda was renowned for her faithfulness and chastity. Jalandhar began to conquer all. He became extremely egocentric, thinking he was unbeatable, because of the strength of his wife's devotion to him. So much so he waged war on Indra and Swarga [home of all the dev-gods]. The Gods fled to the protection of Shiva and Vishnu, but this was to no avail. Jalandhar had become invincible in the three worlds because of the devotion of his wife Vrinda. Vishnu and Shiva soon realised that the only way to defeat Jalandhar was to break the loyalty of Vrinda. They deceived Vrinda by telling her that her husband had been killed in battle. They produced Jalandhar's severed head and body. She thought her husband was dead and went into grief. In answer to her prayers bringing the severed body back to life Vishnu appeared before Vrinda as Jalandhar. Vrinda was deceived into thinking that it was her resuscitated husband, so she embraced him. Realising her mistake; she lost her virtue by touching another man: after which Jalandhar died in battle.Upon discovering the identity and the horrible trick he had committed Vrinda cursed Vishnu, stating that he would become a black stone, Shaligram - the ammonite stone found mainly in the river Gandaki. In turn she too was cursed into becoming the Tulsi plant, her hair became the plant Tulsi used in the pooja to Gods; as a symbol of devotion. Vishnu won over by Vrinda's unimpeachable chastity vowed to marry her every year, from therein. This has been immortalised by devotees performing their marriage annually on this holy day.In the Hindu dharma, all Vaishanavas celebrate this day by re-enacting this marriage of Lord Vishnu and Tulsibai. It is celebrated with great pomp and splendour as this is the marriage of our Lord. Giving a daughter in marriage is considered to be an extremely meritorious act in the Hindu dharma, it is said one who performs this marriage does so considering Tulsi to be one's own daughter, thereby gaining the credit of Kanyadan. Another minor legend narrates that Lakshmi - the chief consort of Vishnu - slew a demon on this day and remained on earth as the Tulsi plant.
RITUALS:- The marriage of Tulsi with Vishnu/Krishna resembles the traditional Hindu wedding. This ceremony is conducted at homes and also at temples. A fast is observed on the Tulsi Vivah day till evening when the ceremony begins. A mandap (marriage booth) is built around the courtyard of the house where the Tulsi plant is planted. The Tulsi plant is usually planted in centre of the courtyard in a brick plaster called Tulsi vrindavana. It is believed that the soul of Vrinda resides in the plant at night and leaves in the morning. The bride Tulsi is clothed with a sari and ornaments including earrings and necklaces. A human paper face with a bindi and nose-ring - may be attached to Tulsi. The groom is a brass image or picture of Vishnu or Krishna or sometimes Balarama or more frequently the Shaligram stone - the symbol of Vishnu. The image is clothed in a dhoti. Both Vishnu and Tulsi are bathed and decorated with flowers and garlands before the wedding. The couple is linked with a cotton thread (mala) in the ceremony.In Maharashtra, an important ritual in the ceremony is when the white cloth is held between the bride and the groom and the priest recites the Mangal Ashtaka mantras. These mantras formally complete the wedding. Rice mixed with vermilion is showered by the attendees on Tulsi and Vishnu at the end of the recitation of the mantras with the word "Savadhan" (literally "be careful" implying "You are united now". The white curtain is also removed. The attendees clap signifying approval to the wedding. Vishnu is offered sandalwood-paste, men's clothing and the sacred thread. The bride is offered saris, turmeric, vermilion and a wedding necklace called Mangal-sutra, worn by married women. Sweets and food cooked for an actual wedding are cooked for Tulsi Vivah too. This ceremony is mostly performed by women. The prasad of sugar-cane, coconut chips, fruits and groundnut is distributed to devotees.The expenses of the wedding are usually borne by a daughter-less couple, who act as the parents of Tulsi in the ritual wedding. The giving away of the daughter Tulsi (kanyadaan) to Krishna is considered meritorious to the couple. The bridal offerings to Tulsi are given to a Brahmin priest or female ascetics after the ceremony.In two Rama temples in Saurashtra, the ceremony is more elaborate. An invitation card is sent to the groom's temple by the bride's temple. On Prabodhini Ekadashi, a barat bridal procession of Lalji - an image of Vishnu - sets off to the bride's temple. Lalji is placed in a palanquin and accompanied by singing and dancing devotees. The barat is welcomed on the outskirts of Tulsi's village and the ceremonial marriage is carried at the temple. At the bride's side, Tulsi is planted in an earthen pot for the ceremony. People desirous of children perform Kanyadaan from Tulsi's side acting as her parents. Bhajans are sung throughout the night and in the morning the barat of Lalji returns to their village with Tulsi.

if vrinda took rebirth as tulsi devi i hope they show the importance of tulsi vivah. atleast one episode should be dedicated to it.

i know cv's are always in a hurry to finish off imp tracks (ex sati track, mahishasur track, kali track, navadurga track. ganesha, samudramanthan track etc.) and prolong unwanted tracks (ashok sundari, dashan etc.).

atleast show tulasi vivah for one episode.

Tulasi plant belongs to an earlier period (It emerged out during Samudra Manthan)

The Samudra Manthan process released a number of things from the Milk Ocean.Even some herbs emerged out and one of them was 'Tulasi plant'.

It is said that Vrinda cursed Vishnu to turn into Salagram.But Salagram has it's own origin.

The episode relates to Varaha Purana which says that once there was a sage by the name Shalankayana, who was performing austerities and devotional meditation in many holy places with the view to gain a great devotee of Lord Vihsnu as his son. He visited the sacred tirtha (holy place) of Muktinatha in present day Northern Nepal, high in the Himalayas, and took his bath in the icy waters of the Kali Gantaki at the back of Annapurna mountain. Extremely tired from his climb in the high altitude, he finally took rest under a sala tree. Fast asleep on the eastern side of the tree, he didn't notice that the Lord Krishna had come and stood before him. Then by the Lord's mercy the sage awoke and saw his Lord standing there and immediately propitiated him with melodious Vedic mantras. The Lord then fulfilled the desire of the sage and gave him a son on the spot, and being pleased with his devotional attitude, gave another boon. Krishna informed that from that day (the dwadasi in the sukla paksa of the month of Vaisaka) He would eternally stay on the area of that mountain in the form of the Salagrama stone. Actually there was no sala tree there at that time - it was a special self-manifesting mercy incarnation of the Lord appearing for His devotee. So in the same way, the Lord continued to tell the sage that in the self-manifesting form of the Salagrama Shila, He will reside there, and the devotees can take Him in this form and worship Him, and He will reciprocate their love in that way. This is confirmed in the Mahabharata (Vana Parva Ch 84, 123-125), where it is said the name Salagram is given to Lord Vishnu who resides in the Salagrama at the Salagram Tirtha.

Another version of Tulasi and Shaligram

Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil is closely associated with the origins of Shila worship.Once in anger Sarasvati cursed Lakshmi. Sarasvati's curse changed Lakshmi into a tulsi plant and forced her to live on earth forever. Vishnu, however, intervened and modified the curse, saying that Lakshmi would remain on earth as tulasi until the river Gandaki flowed from her body. In the meantime, He would wait by the riverside in the form of a stone to take her back to His abode. This stone was the Shaligram Shila, which thus remained on earth as a representative of Vishnu. The Shila Deities and the tulsi plant are thus always worshipped together as Vishnu and Lakshmi.

Dont take Vrinda devi wrong this is DKM version.In .Jallandhar story she wasn't aware of jallandhar lusting Parvati
